Security and property vandalism has been a challenge in some of the schools in the communities we work in.
United Way advocate for Education, Health and wellbeing. We have embarked on several projects to create an environment for safety and healthy learning in the schools, from building ablution facilities and now working with our donors to do among other vital things - health and safety inspections in some of our projects... as well as helping to provide security in other schools in Mokopane, Limpopo.
Mokopane like most townships in the country; has a historical high level of unemployment, poverty, unskilled labour force amongst youth, women and people with disabilities. These factors worsen the situation, especially crime and as alluded above - promote vandalism etc.
This project in Mokopane is also a stewardship for employee volunteering and engagement. We also see and appreciate the partnership with the community and school governing body.
Please watch (excuse the pun - we need the community to help guard the schools premises at night). Together we are stronger!
